Local shops: an example of museum

There is something else to consider: a truly democratic project is not only impossible, it is also undesirable. The museum end product, the website, the exhibition, the book always needs a story and a design. If not, the result of crowdsourcing would become fragmented and anecdotal. That is why it is important to have a clear concept in advance in which the contributions are given a place. That concept will have to be devised by someone. In most cases by a project leader or a curator. So in the end they are still needed to separate the wheat from the chaff, to make a story from all the impressions and to cast that story in a captivating form. The resulting exhibition will therefore not be 100% ‘bottom-up’ very quickly. And that is a good thing.
